Valdez 07 26 2013 Jack's Fishing

Jack is trying to fish for Pink Salmon.  He is using a rod and reel that he brought from home, the fishing lure is on loan from Jim.   He ends up buying a new rod and reel.   Then he gets a chance to go shrimp fishing.  Next he tries fishing on a head boat for silver salmon.  He did get so many pink salmon that I told him that if he brought home any more pink salmon that he would have to eat all of them right then, both of our freezer were getting full.
He starts off with the right items, but it is not like fishing at home.  The fish just don’t bite in AK.  All they are interested in, is getting back to the place where they were born

First one,  and he got away.

GONE!!!!

The gentlemen in the black shirt see that Jack is having a hard time and stops to give him a few tips.  He tell him, "Don’t try to get them to bit the hock, just try to snag them."

His first fish that he got to shore.    The big one got away.

As I was waiting for Jack, I noticed that the people on the sand bar (that was across from Jack, just 30 minutes ago) was gone and the people were trapped trying to get to sold ground.

This was my new friend Gab.  He was going to give me his best fishing lure, but since I was not going to use it for fishing he thought that he should keep it.

A swarm of salmon in front of Jack.
The fishing fleet waiting for the 1:00 time for fishing, but at the last minute they changed to the time to 2:00.

A glacier just across the bay from where I was sitting.  I just can't get believe how beautiful they are.  I wish that you could see them in person.

They are still waiting, just 15 mim. to go.

Day 2 of fishing.  Went and got a new rod, he did not have a choice of color.  It is very close to the one he had at home, so the yellow rod will be mine when we get home.

The new rod worked great.  Got my limit in less than 45 min.

He is out with Jim today.  They are trying to get bait fish for the shrimp pots.

While they wait for the shrimp, they try their hand at some more fish.

An eagle hunting for some fish.

The time has come to go back and get the shrimp pots.  I sure hope for lots of shrimp.

Some heavy talking about not getting any shrimp and the loss of 3 pots and all of the line.

Let’s try some more fishing.

Day 6 We can’t wait for the silver salmon to come to shore, so Jack decide to take a head boat out to find the silver salmon.

As you can see by his big grin, that he got his limit of 6 silver salmon and they were all bigger than any pink salmon that he caught.

Some of the other salmon from the boat.

They have very nice cleaning tables at the docks for cleaning your fish or you can have one of the locals do it for you.  Jack was not as fast or as good as they would do.  They would do your salmon for $1.00 each.  It is quick, about a minute,  and not any waste.  They say that they can clean any were from 300,000 to 350,000 fish each 3 month season.  I think I could live on $350,000 cash each season.  What about you?

Jack row of silver salmon.  Yes, they are pink on the inside, but they have silver scales.  His 6 fish is about 25 pounds of salmon.  For those whom like salmon,  the are so much better fresh  than anything you can get in any store,  bar none.
