We left Tok, Alaska (this is the first town in the USA) and headed
to Delta Junction. Delta Junction is the
end of Alaska Highway mile 1422. We took
the required tourist pictures with the end of the road monument and the
mosquito then we went and got our certificate.
A short distant down the road we saw some moose. We stopped by the Tanana River to read about
the Gold Rush. Found an interesting
store that made gifts with knotty pine and a wildlife display.
Delta Junction is the northern terminus (official end) end to the “Alcan” (Alaska/Canada) Highway. With a final cost of $115,000,000.
Alaska Gold Rush is on. The amount of gold mined increased from $40,000 in 1903 to $9.6 million in 1909.
The Tanana gold field were Alaska richest and within a few years Fairbanks became the territory’s largest city.
